Your local family run Garden Centre

Dundry Nurseries has come a long way since the first seed was sown by my Grandfather, Robert Palmer, in 1947. I`m now the third generation of the family to run our traditional nursery and garden centre, and along with our friendly, experienced staff, we pride ourselves on our gardening knowledge. We are always happy to give a helping hand or answer your questions. At our site, between Cheltenham and Gloucester, we produce a varied range of home grown bedding and vegetable plants, and alongside this we offer all the essential ingredients for successful gardening.

We are also famous for our seed potato selection, which is second to none. We are proud to offer over 100 varieties, and all are sold loose. We look forward to welcoming you soon to Dundry Nurseries.

Jobs for January

  • Set seed potatoes to chit on a cool windowsill, this will encourage short green shoots
  • Sow sweet peas
  • Harvest winter crops like parsnips and leeks
  • Prune rose bushes while still dormant
  • Remove yellow and decayed leaves from over-wintered brassica plants
  • Cut back ornamaental grasses to ground level before the new shoots start to emerge
  • Clean greenhouses with Jeyes Fluid
  • Prune apple and pear trees, remove crossing branches and create an open framework
  • Plant soft fruit such as bareroot raspberries
  • Prune currant and gooseberry bushes
  • Plant hedging plants this month
  • Check stored summer flowering bulbs and buy new ones if any need replacing
  • Select seeds for the coming year, try at least one thing you`ve not grown before
  • Protect tender plants with fleece in cold weather
  • Buy onion sets, shallots, peas and beans for planting from March onwards
  • Plant garlic this month, they need a good dose of cold weather so January is a great time to plant
  • Mulch flower and veg beds with manure
